Laser beam melting of functionally graded materials with application-adapted tailoring of magnetic and mechanical performance

The processing of functionally graded materials (FGMs) using laser beam melting (LBM) is a promising technique for increasing the efficiency conventional machine components, especially e-mobility. Therefore, aim current study to prove manufacturability tailored mechanical and magnetic properties in rotor an electric motor. For this purpose, design additively manufactured rotors with application-adapted tailoring same component FGM was proposed. first step investigate whether i.e. soft-magnetic steel core high-strength shaft ends, are suitable machining by LBM. Subsequently, multi-material samples two investigated types their different arrangement were processed Furthermore, post-processing heat treatments effects on microstructure resulting as well performance mono- analyzed. combination LBM additional post treatment enables both formation good adhesive bond between alloys desired FGMs investigated.
